History of the Land Rover brand

The idea of creating Land Rover brand stemmed from the success of Jeep company which was producing off-road vehicles for the army and later also for civilians. Engineers from the Rover concern, looking at the success of Jeep, quickly decided to introduce off-road vehicles under the newly created brand Land Rover. The first vehicle was built in 1948 and presented in Amsterdam. The model was very much to the liking of the British people. This led to the mass production of Land Rover for overseas markets. After the success of the pioneering off-road vehicle, the concern decided to produce the vehicle in other versions.

Then, the company received rights from General Motors to the 3.5 V8 engine and on its basis, a new off-road model called Range Rover was created. The first generation of this well-known model was built in 1970. Shortly afterwards in 1978, Land Rover became a separate automotive brand. At the same time the Land Rover 90 and Land Rover 110 models were produced.

In the following years the company produced another model – Land Rover Discovery. In the meantime Rover was absorbed by BMW. Then Ford bought out Land Rover brand from BMW. From that moment until 2007 the concern produced new generations of its previous models and their different variations, e.g. Range Rover Sport. In 2007, the Ford Motor Company put up for sale the Jaguar and Land Rover brands, which were bought by the Indian company Tata Motors. Since the acquisition of the brand, the earlier models have continued to be produced in new generations, plus the Range Rover Evoque has been added to the range.

As you can see, the history of the Land Rover brand, is extremely interesting. The brand itself, despite changing hands, still produces very good off-road vehicles, additionally enriched with the technological background of the colossus that is Tata Motors.
